Jingyao is Singapore’s youngest ever Chess Grandmaster, 5-time National chess champion, and triple medal winner at the recent Hanoi Sea Games. He is a well-known prodigy who has been featured in the local news multiple times in the past 12 years for his inspirational chess accomplishments.

Olimpiu Urcan

Olimpiu Urcan is a Candidate Master, accomplished chess historian, and chess journalist. With his extensive chess background, passion for teaching, and engaging style, he is a highly qualified mentor for aspiring chess players, imparting his knowledge and expertise in the game.

Mrs Shum is a caring teacher who is concerned about her students and their well-being. She has helped me improve in my English and has always been very caring towards me. She stresses on our mental health and has encouraged us a lot. Her teaching is amazing and i love how she shares interesting facts related to the topic we were studying and she exposed us to the basics of general paper too. To add, Mrs Shum gives specific feedback on our work which allowed us to know what we can improve on. The MS comprehension worksheets were also of great help as they allow me to know how to answer certain questions in a straightforward manner. Mrs Shum marks quite strictly which also further prepared me well for the O-levels where the marking is usually more lenient. As a result, I learnt how to do better and could gauge where i stand. Mrs Shum also made me realise that i was better in personal recount essays which allowed me to do well in the O-levels. No prior knowledge or background is required. Our Chess Camp welcomes participants of all skill levels, including beginners. Whether you are new to chess or have some experience, we have a program designed to cater to your needs.

We offer an introductory course called "An Introduction to Chess for Beginners" specifically tailored for those with no prior knowledge of chess. In this program, you will be introduced to the basics of chess, including the movement of pieces and the rules of play. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to develop their chess skills at their own pace.

The beginners' class is designed to build a foundation in chess for those who have little or no basic knowledge of chess and to gain a more in-depth understanding of the basic concepts of chess.

If a student has a good understanding of the rules of chess, including basic chess moves and special moves (such as en passant), then he/she can progress to the intermediate class.

Yes, for the chess training workshops scheduled on the 16th, 19th, and 20th of June, participants will receive specially curated and developed materials. These materials have been thoughtfully prepared by our experienced coaches, Olimpiu and Jingyao.

Participants will have opportunities for hands-on practice during the camp. They will engage in interactive exercises and games to apply what they have learned from the materials and worksheets. As a highlight, participants will have the chance to showcase their newly honed chess skills in a simultaneous exhibition with the coaches on the 20th of June, and the Mind Stretcher Chess Tournament on 21st of June.

There will be 2 categories in the tournament:
U12 (for participants under 12 years old), and
U18 (for participants under 18 years old).

Students in the Chess Camp will be grouped into these two age categories.

Yes, it is possible for you to participate in the Chess Tournament on the 21st of June without attending the entire Chess camp. However, we highly recommend that participants sign up for the full Chess camp to enjoy a comprehensive learning experience and take advantage of the unique opportunities available.

By joining the Chess camp, you will have the exceptional opportunity to receive training from our experienced Chess masters, Jingyao and Olimpiu. They possess a wealth of knowledge in the game and will provide valuable guidance throughout the camp. The camp also offers a range of activities, including workshops, interactive exercises, and the simultaneous exhibition with the coaches, for an immersive learning environment.
