IP Exam Workshop Series – Key Skills for IP Mathematics

It is important to master the fundamentals Secondary Mathematics in order to score well as they are the building blocks for Elementary Maths and Additional Maths in the upper Secondary Level. In this 5-part workshop series, your child will be able to grasp key concepts of 4 Mathematical topics: Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra and Statistics. From bridging the gap between using model method and algebra when solving problem sums to learning about the real life applications of Maths concepts and more, your child will have a strong foundation of Secondary Mathematics and be able to excel in this subject.

In this 5-part series, he/she will be able to understand the fundamentals needed to excel in Mathematics. 


The following are the highlights of the 5-part series that will be covered during the workshop:



Arithmetic in Real World Mastery

22 Mar (Fri)

2 pm – 5 pm

Real life Mathematical Problems on Discounts, Commissions, Instalments, Hire purchase, Foreign exchange and units conversion will be covered in this module
Expose the students on the above real life problems and relate to how Mathematics can be applied in their everyday life


In depth techniques and strategies in solving word problems 



Algebra Mastery (I)

Basic Algebra & Algebraic Manipulation skills


Solving Linear Equations and Simple Inequalities of first order


Transit from the model drawing approach learnt in Primary 6 to the symbolic abstract approach of mastering algebra




Algebra Mastery (II)

27 Apr (Sat)

2 pm – 5 pm

Simplify Algebra expressions and solve algebraic equations 


Different levels of manipulation of Algebra like factorisation and application of Algebra in real life context 




Geometry Mastery 

8 Jun (Sat)

2 pm – 5 pm

Topics: Co-ordinate Geometry, Triangles and Shapes, Area and Volume of 2-dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes and solids


Explore various difficulty – tiered questions based on the five levels of geometric thinking: visualization, analysis. abstraction, formal deduction and rigor 

(Van Hiele’s Model of Geometric Thinking) 


Inter-connectedness of Geometry with Algebra will also be covered




Statistics Mastery 

14 Sep (Sat)

2 pm – 5 pm 

2 key measures of Central Tendency : Mean, Mode and Median


How graphical representations can be used to represent and analyse data and creating meaningful conclusions for decision making 


How Statistics are being used and misused in real life such as accidents, prices of goods, business, incomes, epidemics, sports data and population data


How to be more discerning in visualising and interpreting data that is presented
